The University of Salamanca, through its office of International Courses, offers courses in Spanish as a foreign language at all levels, as well as courses in teacher training and other higher level courses aimed at graduate and post-graduate students. Our University, founded in 1218, is the oldest in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe. It is known all over the world for its teaching of Spanish. Over the last 40 years more than 150,000 students and teachers from all over the world have come for our courses.
Furthermore, the University of Salamanca is responsible for the creation and correction of the examinations for the DELE (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language) the only official diplomas recognized by the Spanish Government.
The city of Salamanca has been declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO and was chosen as European City of Culture in 2002. This does not prevent it, however, from being a modern city completely prepared for the life of the modern university student.
