Viorica Patea

Viorica Patea obtained her PhD at the University of Salamanca (1987). She is Associate Professor of American Literature at the University of Salamanca (Spain) where she teaches American and British literature, mainly poetry.
She is the author of several studies on Emily Dickinson, R. W. Emerson, Walt Whitman, Nathaniel Hawthorne, T. S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Sylvia Plath and George Orwell. Her published books include among others Entre el mito y la realidad: Aproximación a la obra poética de Sylvia Plath (Salamanca, 1989), a study on Whitman, La apología de Whitman a favor de la épica de la modernidad: El Prefacio de 1855 de Hojas de hierba (León, 1999), and several co-edited collections of essays such as Critical Essays on the Myth of the American Adam (Salamanca, 2001; with María Eugenia Díaz) and Modernism Revisited: Transgressing Boundaries and Strategies of Renewal in American Poetry (Rodopi 2007; in collaboration with Paul Derrick).  She is also the author and editor of a book on T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land (La tierra baldía. Madrid: Ediciones Cátedra, 2005).

She has been the director of various research projects on Modernism, American Poetry and the Language of the Avantgarde.
